Pregnancy often leads to a decline in physical activity, which can negatively affect the health and wellbeing of both mothers and babies. To tackle this challenge, Good Boost, a leader in digital therapeutic exercise technology, has partnered with the Active Pregnancy Foundation (APF) to co-develop pioneering digital aquatic exercise solutions for pregnant and postnatal women.
Good Boost is a social enterprise that transforms gyms, swimming pools, and community places into therapeutic spaces, providing tailored exercise programs for people with a broad range of health conditions. Their mission is to empower individuals to "move more, have fun, and feel better," through their multi award-winning technology.
The Active Pregnancy Foundation, founded in 2020, is dedicated to breaking down barriers to physical activity during pregnancy and beyond. The organisation provides expertise, evidence-based advice, and advocacy to support women in leading active lifestyles tailored to their unique needs. APF also challenges societal norms, striving to create a culture where physical activity during pregnancy is accessible and encourage.
This collaboration has been formed as part of an Innovate UK ‘Investment Partnerships Fund' project, which will involve co-designed solutions informed by focus groups led by the APF. The goal is to address disparities in access to physical activity, particularly for underserved populations, and to create engaging tools that support the long-term health of mothers and their babies.
Dr Marlize De Vivo, CEO of The Active Pregnancy Foundation said,
“We’re excited to collaborate with Good Boost to think differently and innovatively about solutions that help women stay active during and after pregnancy. Water-based activities offer unique benefits, such as supporting joints, improving circulation, and reducing discomfort in the back and pelvis.
This partnership enables us to explore how technology can further enhance these activities, helping women stay active and improve their wellbeing throughout pregnancy and beyond.”
“We are thrilled to partner with the Active Pregnancy Foundation to co-design innovative aquatic solutions that encourage and support greater activity for expectant and new mothers. This collaboration is driven by a shared commitment to addressing the significant inequalities many women face when accessing opportunities for physical activity. Together, we aim to create inclusive and empowering programs that make movement in water accessible to underserved populations, fostering equality in health and wellness,” said Ben Wilkins, CEO of Good Boost.
