We're supporting The Bump Plan's Hollie Grant, as she's going for a Guinness World Record for the Most Viewers of a Prenatal Pilates Class, this International Women's Day.
On International Women’s Day (8th March) at 7pm, Expert Pilates Instructor Hollie Grant will be teaching a FREE 40-minute Prenatal Pilates class and going for the Guinness World Record for the ‘Most viewers of a prenatal Pilates lesson live streamed on YouTube’ (1500 views)!
Come and make history with other pregnant women!
The Active Pregnancy Foundation’s mission is to support women to stay active throughout pregnancy and beyond, by providing expertise and advice; changing culture; and challenging policy, traditional barriers and social stigmas. For every person that joins the record attempt, The Bump Plan will donate £1 to The Active Pregnancy Foundation. If they hit the record, they will top up the donation to £2,000.
The theme for this year’s IWD is #BreakTheBias. Imagine a world where active pregnancies were celebrated, free of misinformation or fearmongering. Together, it’s possible to help change the narrative around active pregnancies and celebrate what women CAN do during pregnancy, rather than repeating what they can’t.
‘Pregnant women are fragile’, ‘Exercise during pregnancy is dangerous’, ‘Running whilst pregnant is selfish’…
We come across bias against pregnant women all the time. Both The Bump Plan and The Active Pregnancy Foundation are dedicated to shaking up these outdated views by raising awareness of evidence-based information about pre- and postnatal physical activity and wellbeing through their platforms.
“For years pregnant women have been given outdated advice, and confusing messages, about staying active during pregnancy. They have experienced bias and been on the end of “well-meaning” comments such as “shouldn’t you be resting” and “exercise will harm your baby” and this has left many women scared to continue to exercise. Organisations such as the Active Pregnancy Foundation, along with ourselves, want to change this! It’s my hope that by shining the light on pregnant women in this exciting World Record attempt, more pregnant women will feel safe and inspired to stay active during their pregnancy and break the bias pregnant women face.” ~ Hollie Grant.
“We are honoured to be a part of this campaign on International Women’s Day and for us, breaking the bias is not simply about breaking a record but also in changing the narrative around active pregnancies. Hollie’s World Record attempt is a great opportunity to get the message out there that activity is for everyone! We’re excited to encourage and support more pregnant women to enjoy the mental and physical benefits of an active lifestyle. We thank Hollie and her team for highlighting the work we do.” ~ Dr Marlize De Vivo & Sally Kettle, CEOs, The Active Pregnancy Foundation.
The Bump Plan want to encourage as many people as possible to join; be that pregnant friends and family and even those who aren’t pregnant! The class will help participants to improve posture and strength in key areas for pregnancy and prepare their body for labour and motherhood…and is safe for healthy women with uncomplicated pregnancies during all stages of pregnancy. The class can have many strength and postural benefits for those who aren’t pregnant too!
To join, register on the landing page here and you will be sent the information for the class.
