Sally Kettle, CEO The Active Pregnancy Foundation says, “We’ve attracted over 400 nominations for the event this year, and I know the judges found it incredibly difficult to bring the field down to just three shortlisted entries for each award. It’s also heart-warming to have heard from so many of the people who were nominated who felt that, for the very first time, they were being recognised for the work they’re doing. We cannot wait to announce the winners, whilst celebrating everyone who has made the shortlist. We’ll also be giving a shout out to all who were nominated too .”

The Awards

All nominations were judged in relation to criteria set out by The Active Pregnancy Foundation ensuring those working with pregnant and postnatal women had appropriate qualifications and were insured where necessary, and were committed to continuing professional development. All awards will be considered in the context of physical activity during the perinatal period. The charity invited those who work with pregnant and postnatal women to nominate themselves or others in four broad categories: people, places, products, and programmes.

Despite the many physical and mental health benefits of regular engagement with physical activities, research has shown that participation declines during the childbearing years with as many as 3 in 4 women missing out on the associated benefits every year[1]and few returning to pre-pregnancy participation levels. The Active Pregnancy Foundation Awards 2023 will recognise and celebrate the people and enterprises that make a difference to women’s engagement with and experience of physical activities during the pre- and postnatal life stages. The event will commend those who demonstrate best practice in the field and highlight a collective intention to raise awareness and standards in safety, access, and provision.
